I was already working as a barber in another country but I needed to be certified to work in Canada. English is not my first language and I was worried about not having the skills to understand or communicate with my fellow students and teachers. I also had no experience working with women's hair and I was very worried about not being able to keep up with the rest of the class. Everyone at the school was so nice, and patient. I felt very comfortable talking, and asking questions. The teachers always encouraged me to ask anything, because "there are no stupid questions". By the end of my year there, I gained the confidence to talk to clients, make small talk, read labels and directions and to smoothly transition to working in a salon environment. They always gave me enough time to finish my exams or to ask any questions about what we were learning. They care about making sure that I understood everything. Going into the program I was worried, but after going through it, I would recommend it to anyone, even if English is not their first language. "
